How it all started...

How it All Started
Corona Community AME (CCAME) Church was founded in 2002 by Rev. Noella Buchanan (affectionately called “Rev. No”), who was serving with her husband, Rev. Morris Buchanan, the then Pastor of Bethel AME Church Fontana.  CCAME was birthed to establish the A.M.E. Church in the Corona area of the Inland Empire, as a few members who were attending Bethel Fontana were driving from Corona to attend services in Fontana.

Rev. Noella Buchanan was on the ministerial staff of Bethel AME Fontana, when she decided to start CCAME.  Before founding the church as a mission in Corona, CA, Rev. No, walked up and down the streets of Corona praying for God’s direction and blessing.  Ironically, Rev. Noella prayed over the building (321 E. Sixth Street, Corona, CA 92879) in which our church currently resides, not knowing that 6-7 years later, CCAME would occupy that building.

From its inception, God has been directing the growth of CCAME. CCAME began meeting in the home of present members, Michael and Allene Gray.   As the Church grew, CCAME Church moved their worship services to a Masonic Lodge in Corona. The Church gained members in the lodge, and was able to amass a healthy savings account that provided good financial security for the church. In a desire to have a more permanent worship space (as members had to constantly set up and break down at the Masonic lodge), Corona Community AME Church relocated once more to a storefront property on McKinley Avenue in Corona.  In 2005, Bishop John Richard Bryant, appointed Rev. Tracy Johnson as CCAME’s second pastor.

Rev. Tracy Johnson grew the church, through dynamic preaching, and his spirit of fellowship.  He proudly served CCAME, and helped the church to grow tremendously.  Due to irreconcilable differences, Rev. Tracy Johnson was replaced as Pastor of CCAME February 17, 2008, in which Bishop John Richard Bryant, appointed Rev. Charles Lee-Johnson as the Pastor of CCAME Church.

Rev. Charles Lee-Johnson is the present pastor of CCAME.  When Rev. Lee-Johnson assumed the pastorate, the church was financially in “the red”, and numerous members had left the church due to differences with the previous Pastor.

Under Rev. Lee-Johnson’s leadership, the church has more than tripled in weekly attendance, more than doubled in membership, has numerous ministries throughout the week, and has become a strong powerhouse for the Lord in the City of Corona.

Due to an expiring lease in 2008, CCAME was forced to relocate.  After searching many sites, God led CCAME to our present location, 321 E. Sixth Street, Corona, CA 92879, in the downtown district of Corona, CA.  Initially, the City of Corona objected to another church coming into the downtown district of Corona, but with a lot of prayer, God moved City Council to vote unanimously in our favor.

CCAME has prospered and experienced tremendous growth, and we believe God is getting ready to take us even higher.  CCAME owns a handicap-accessible van that was donated to the church by the Riverside Transit Authority.  The Church functions as a “family”, and has become very diverse in its composition.

Where we are headed...

Corona Community AME Church is on the move.  With a growing congregation, CCC is looking for a larger facility to better serve our community.  We continue to adhere to the call of Mark 16:15 which tell us to “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone…” (NLT).  We continue to seek opportunities to seek and save the lost, hurting, needy, and marginalized of our community and world, while reflecting and sharing the love, grace, and kindness of our amazing Savior, Jesus Christ.

CCC is currently revamping our Youth ministries, adding a Senior Ministry, and expanding our Small Group (Class Leader) program.
